I’m sorry to disappoint the Rutland Manor groupies but my visit during the day confirmed my opinion that this is indeed a puppy farm and it’s time for Beverley to retire, if not for the sake of her dogs for her own sanity.
Bev posted some outrageous comments on her site following the release of our photos, such as we dragged the dogs out of their “bedrooms” and into a disused shed where old dog beds were stored and then staged our photos! My daylight visit and the Twyla photos confirmed that our pictures are a true account of the conditions at RM.

And here is the “disused shed” used to store old dog beds that we were accused of staging the photos. Our photos quite obviously were not taken in this shed.
Beverley admitted her dogs ”bedrooms” did not look good, perhaps this is why we do not see pictures of the dogs in their bedrooms on the new site? They are small cold concrete cell blocks, on each occasion the dogs were photographed at night they had no bedding.

There was only 2 shredded beds for 3 large dogs that were in this shed, no bedding, cold filthy concrete. These dogs make a lot of money for their owner, they deserve a warm bed at the very least.
As I walked around the property I did not observe any toys for the dogs or any sort of environmental enrichment program, I was overcome with a deep sadness.
The dogs and puppies are absolutely gorgeous and I found them irresistible and could have spent all day cuddling them. But aren’t all the dogs on death row gorgeous and worthy of a home as well ? Why do we need more ?
Marketing companies know how much the public find puppies irresistible, they use puppies to sell everything from mobile phones to toilet paper! So how cute the dogs and puppies were wasn’t the issue, it was the breeding mums and dads that spend their whole lives in this barren environment and are only viewed as breeding machines capable of making a fortune. The dogs had worn paths in the ground around their barren enclosures, it was truly a sad place.
The controversy surrounding Rutland Manor started years before I started my investigation and is well documented on the internet, I only exposed the hidden truth through photos and allow people to make up their own minds.
The day wasn’t all peaches and cream as it has been made out to be either. I was photographed and videoed upon my arrival, they were not very friendly at first and I had a large man with bad breath in my face telling me he was going to “stick my head up my arse”, Kate videoed this verbal assault on me, then they phoned the police!
Beverley was kind enough to show me around all the different area’s as long as I didn’t take my camera, Twyla was kind enough to follow us around and take photos every step of the way. Helen and Leith decided to follow for a while and throw in some verbal insults, I didn’t take the bait and they eventually gave up.
I found Beverley to be hospitable and very eager to talk about her dogs and breeding program and I was keen to listen to what she had to say. Everything was always the neighbors, EPA, Council, Police, RSPCA, ex employee’s fault whenever I asked questions that challenged her like the back to back breeding, underage breeding, and the pound dog, Wanda.
Kate and Twyla struck me as intelligent passionate women. Kate spoke to me about her work in rescue in the USA and showed me photos of her gorgeous dog. Kate and Twyla constantly praised Beverley as the “founder” of the Labradoodle and how beautiful her dogs were, however when I asked Kate about what she made of the pound dog, Wanda, the back to back breeding and underage breeding her response was quick, ”I don’t know anything about that”. I don’t think Kate and Twyla are seeing the bigger picture unfortunately.
So why are the RM supporters only focusing on the beautiful dogs and “protecting” Bev and not the real issues of the unethical breeding practices, not to mention the cruel unnecessary debarking ? Why are they trying to detract from the real issues at hand, why dont they answer the hard questions ?
Does Beverley know she is a puppy farmer ? No she doesn’t, she see’s nothing wrong with what she does and has an excuse for all her actions. I feel sorry for her as she appears to be living in her own world and the people that she surrounds herself with constantly stroke her ego and perpetuate the “legend” status in Bev’s mind, they are doing nothing to help Beverley.
I left feeling great pity for Bev, if she wasn’t surrounded by people that kept urging her to continue I think she could retire with her dignity intact and she could possibly have a lot to contribute in other areas.
It is simply not acceptable to factory farm dogs, there are more humane and ethical ways to breed these beautiful animals and it does not need to be on a large scale. Dogs are companion animals not “stock”
As I was leaving they were loading up dogs in a horse float which was heartbreaking, Bev has had 9 months to fix the kennels, instead she debarked the dogs interstate and now she is moving them.
Bev it’s time to bow out, you’re better than all this crap, you can do some good work elsewhere and save some lives. Now it’s your turn to spend a day with me on deathrow.

It is enlightening to see that you have considered the “Entire” situation and reported on such.
Your first hand account is informative and confirms what others (including myself) have witnessed.
You have once again spoken in a factual manner and given your honest account of what you witnessed.
What a shame others can not see the situation in its entirety.
I think Bev is a victim of her own success and she herself has lost sight of what she originally set out to do, to turn the love of breeding an exellent dog into a out of control commercial puppy farm is just what happened. There is just no excuse for letting “others” tend to your pedigrees because you couldn’t or didn’t take the time to learn it is just wrong, breeding a pound puppy and making a fortune off her litters is wrong, she needed a home not a job as a breeding machine, breeding underage dogs, back to back breeding to fulfill an ever growing wait list is wrong. To debark dogs instead of fixing your “kennels” is wrong. Sorry the glossy website just doesn’t match the reality of where her dogs spent their lives, cold concrete rooms and life in dog runs with no toys and no real enrichment programs. I agree Debra, the supporters as well as the public are in part to blame for keeping her in business, they see only what they want see.
When I first saw Beverley Manners website a few years ago, I thought “Hooray, someone proclaiming that dogs should live as companion animals in the home and be bred with all the health testing and proper pedigrees”. I was aware that not all the claims were truthful but there are not many big businesses which would pass that test!
In reality commercial breeding has great problems and requires almost super human commitment to keep the breeding dogs’ lives worthwhile, and how many of us are so dedicated?. Rutland Manor has departed drastically from their public image, the kennels are a miserable environment and these dogs will suffer great stress from loneliness, boredom, over breeding and the pointless debarking surgery.
Time to retire Beverley while there is still some vestige of dignity. All of us older breeders have to realise their human frailty and that there does come a time when the numbers of dogs must be reduced to a few friends and that taking personal responsibility for a major business is now too much.
Maybe running a small cattery would be fun!
Still twisting the truth I see Debra. If you’re so against anyone breeding dogs and just getting them from shelters then why concentrate all your efforts on one person. There are hundreds of backyard breeders whose animals are neglected and cruelly treated. GO after them and leave RM alone. these dogs are all well loved and are happy, friendly animals. You experienced that yourself.
You can’t even be honest about what you were shown and need to use someone else’s pictures to twist your story. What a hypocrite. Arriving unannounced as you did, you were lucky to even be invited in.

Hmmmm, debarking is NOT an act of love, back to back breeding is NOT an act of love, underage breeding is NOT an act of love, leaving dogs in cold, concrete pens instead of guardian homes is NOT an act of love now is it??? Twist the truth, nooo sorry Bev is the master of truth twisting, remember “she pioneered the guardian home concept due to disliking keeping breeding dogs in kennels”, that was on HER website!! -Back to back breeding has been shown to be easier on the female than skipping cycles….lots of articles by reputable vets talking about the pros and cons of it…it’s not as black and white as you make it out to be
-As for Wanda the Pound dog…well I thought you guys were advocates of Rescuing dogs? Labradoodles are such a relatively young breed everyone who owns them is fully aware they are crosses and in the case of RM dogs no one has tried to hide the fact there have been a number of other dogs crossed in and Wanda is a bloody gorgeouse Labradoodle why on earth would you not want to add her into the mix?
I think you are missing the fact that a huge percentage of the people buying RM dogs (myself included)are doing so because they have allergies and asthma that do not allow them to live with just any dog. RM has trully managed to create a dog that is hypoallergenic….to families like mine it is a blessing. And before you say it yes I am aware there are a few other breeds that have similar coat qualities but are not as suitable to a family due to temperment, availability (ever tried to buy a Irish Water Spaniel in rurual Australia?)and even cost.
I do not expect Ms Tranter to ever embrace RM as she has made it clear she is fundamentally apposed to dog breeders, but certainly she could conceed that some of her earlier blogs the likes of “Grandma Sicko” were highly inflamatory and insulting to a woman who has worked bloody hard and now perhaps needs a hand up rather than a smack down.
Kerry you are still missing the point, you are buying essentially a poodle with very little else thrown in the mix, she has bred out the other dogs a very long time ago, she only infuses standard poodles in her dog mix. Most pedigrees are 80 to 90 % poodle. You don’t know if Wanda is a Labradoodle and neither did Bev but she lied about her, this dog came with no known history. And the point of rescue is not to turn the dog into a breeding machine but to give it a loving home!! Bev has not bred a lab into her mix EVER. Breeding back to back is illegal in her home state, debarking is cruel as well as illegal. As far as saying Debra is opposed to dog breeders, you are WRONG, she is opposed to puppy farmers and animal abusers which Bev is both.

Wanda the pound dog - yes we are all for rescue from a pound, unfortunately in this country puppy farmers trawl through pounds and shelters looking for “stock”, the fact that Wanda was forced to deliver 55 puppies and make Bev over $100,000 is staggering and how you can justify this incredibly cruel treatment of a stray dog is amazing and tells us a lot about your true agenda here.
Claims of “hypo-allergy” and “allergy friendly” are simply misleading, no dog is allergy friendly although the poodle has been proven to be the safest option, hence why Bev breeds poodles disguised as Labradoodle’s.
Allergy testing with puppies doesn’t help either because as the dogs hair changes to its adult coat it can cause even more allergies! But a dogs coat is not the only cause of allergies to consider there’s the dander, skin, saliva and even the dogs urine.
So Beverley’s claims that her dogs are allergy friendly are simply a lie and a very dangerous one, people have ended up with life threatening allergies and one person a few years ago ended up on life support after purchasing an “allergy friendly” dog.
Kerry in reference to your comments to Peter, you are taking totally out of context the articles about reproduction and back to back breeding as did Beverly Manners with the Jane Barber article.
Beverley Manners breeds back to back from season number one between 6-12 months of age), and then continues to breed back to back over and over and over again for anywhere up to seven consecutive litters. I challenge you Kerry to find one single Vet anywhere in the world who will say this is OK and easier on a bitch. I will tell you now Kerry having rescued a Dachshund some years back who had a similar fate inflicted on her that her uterous fell to pieces in the Vet’s hands when I had her desexed. As a breeder I will confirm it is as black and white as that.
Being an advocate for rescuing a dog and then pumping out 50 plus puppies from her and making $100,000 in the process selling what are clearly NOT Labradoodles is criminal behavior and the ethics in relation to the so-called rescue of a pound dog – well !!! And Beverly did try to hide this Kerry and has only owned up because she has been caught out – again.
Kerry – open your eyes Wanda is clearly NOT a Labradoodle and nor are the majority of RM puppies. If you can purchase a RM puppy from rural Australia, you can also purchase an Irish Water Spaniel and I will tell you now the prices Beverly Manners is charging for her cross bred, false pedigreed dogs is far in excess of any other dog with a legitimate pedigree.

And in particular as for Beverly Manners working bloody hard – WHAT ABOUT THE DOGS KERRY !. What about a hand up for dogs in cold filthy kennels with no voice to cry out, what about a breeding dog tied to a kennel 24 hours a day, what about puppies having puppies time and time and time again.

Debra what a inspiration to many you are. You and everyone else who have been fighting for these beautiful animals are not a cult in fact Beverly and her black sheep are the cult. I really respect the fact that you are took the time to go to her property and see her side clearly she didnt clean up the mess well enough. Please dont give up on RM i know these dogs can be saved! I may not be religious but i will pray to any god out there that someone puts a stop to RM. How can they look at those dogs in the eyes without feeling there pain??? It is so very distressing looking at those pictures.

I would bet money on Wanda being a Goldendoodle and NOT Labradoodle. But, Kerry you and Bev have no idea what she is because she was a stray with no known history and background. And now you are condoning breeding a stray dog with no know history and calling it a pure ASD, selling these pups for thousands of dollars and doing it all over again with her offspring, ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Rescue dogs need HOMES not JOBS as breeding machines. Most shelters would file a court order against someone who would breed a pound puppy. It is not legal here and it is certainly IMMORAL. Just a quick question in regards to dogs leaving shelters/pounds: why aren’t these dogs speyed/neutered before leaving the premises, so as not to perpetuate more dogs ending up in pounds?
Also, my vet de-sexes all strays handed in to his clinic (if owners cannot be located or they are not registered) before trying to find homes. He does that with cats, as there is enough room to keep them at the clinic and find suitable homes for them.

I think Kerry is a skinflint. Why else would she buy a pup from this criminal, who illegally debarks her dogs, illegally breeds dogs underage, illegally breeds dog every cycle, does minimal health testing, and keeps them in cheap and crappy conditions with inadequate care?
If she wants a labradoodle there are plenty of other ethical breeders around. Sure they are more expensive, but that’s becuase they spend the money to ensure the dogs are properly looked after and fully health tested.

Annie - if only there were more vets like yours . Unfortunately the majority seem to be interested in profit & encourage breeders so as to ensure maximum clientele and therefore contribute to the shocking death toll.
I think this Kerry might understand if she had a baby every nine months FOREVER and then after all that be thrown away like garbage. then after she has the babies be left in a room with no bedding. maybe then she could understand what it would be like and then have those babies taken away and then have some more.

After reading Kerry’s colorful essay on her “visit” to RM recently, it has become evident she still misses the point. When someone wants “something” so badly they will turn a blind eye on the truth before them. They will succomb to the charm and truth twisiting and neglect to see the wrongness of it all. I will bet she never asked her questions on the real issues at hand. If anyone can justify breeding a pound puppy in their minds then there is no hope for them in seeing how wrong this all is.

I wonder if either Kerry or Gillian noticed that the poor mothers of these puppies in the nursery and many of the other RM dogs visited as “off we trooped”, had no voices, no bedding and were in need of urgent grooming. Obviously that didn’t bother either of them, and with a quick wave of the magic wand, all the doubts Kerry may have been harboring towards Beverley were all gone.

The honest and very moving comments by Catherine on the RM Exposed site confirm several stark and very real examples of severe neglect and abuse of several RM dogs by Beverly Manners followed by ‘commodity’ trade not once or twice but many times over the years.
How many more real examples are out there and how many more RM dogs have stories to tell of the cruelty and greed which is such a fundamental part of who the real Beverly Manners is and demonstrate and highlight in graphic detail without question why this puppy farmer must be stopped.
Good on you Direct Action. The law consistently fails to protect non-human animals and those courageous enough to truly advocate on their behalf are Heroes - not the villians those selfish & spineless conformists (wearing their false badges of ‘animal officers’) would endevour to portray them as.
I realy hope in a couple of years puppy farming will been banned because I love dogs and think they should be treated equaly as humans are.

surely a person that looked intelligent can work it all out, not many people are very happy with her and she says she’s had threats, i wouldn’t like to live my life like this for the sake of all the money in the world, she’s making thousands upon thousands from selling these mutts, they are cross breeds with an expensive price tag put on them with many false claims attached,
because of all this stress and it would be very stressful, its time to give all this business a rest for the sake of herself and her health and those poor dogs of hers. If she cares about her health and her dogs lives, she should consider this.

very angry aussie, welcome to my world, it is very true what you say, the council is responsible for the permits that they approve in their own shires. Then if you question they make up excuses why the farm is allowed to continue.
the problem with cross breed dogs being used over and over again is that they produce thousands of dogs being spread across the state to people that don’t know of their responsibilities totally so they end up in shelters and pounds for the tax payer, you and i, to fork out the money to put them all down.
this is what is wrong with having puppy farms, we don’t need more puppy farms producing thousands of pets that end up on death row - causing problems in society of over population.
we have enough animals trying to find homes without adding more from the pet shop front too who source their animals from these types of farmers.
Beverley sells overseas mostly from the stories i’ve read about her, but she still sells a proportion right here in Australia UNDESEXED so the poor dogs can continue to be breeding machines.
laws needs to be changed in our state to stop petshops selling live animals and also stop these large farms and also BACKYARD BREEDERS who also breed for money.
the system sucks and registered pedigree breeders who breed for the betterment of a breed and healthy dogs for everyone to enjoy, who don’t make money but rather lose $$ but don’t care as long as they enjoy their breed of dog,
registered breeders get lumped in with all that mob and the system SUCKS big time.
they have summits to work out how to reduce the over population but fail to recognise the sources, which is petshops, farmers like Beverley and also Backyard operations breeding up hundred of defenseless dogs for the pet market. if we stopped these 3 things then we wouldn’t have people being cruel like this Beverley around and we wouldn’t have full shelters across the state.

I think it’s laughable how much your own bias against real puppy farms has tainted your opinion of Rutland Manor.
I also imagine that taking on a more internationally well known breeder like Rutland Manor is helping you raise your visibility quite a bit.
I do think your heart may be in the right place, but I don’t think your facts or tactics are correct. As someone with personal experience with Beverley, and someone who knows several people who have stayed on her property for weeks at a time, I can say, without any doubt, that your own desire to end the puppy mill problem has lead you to demonize someone unfairly.
As for your photos: it’s amazing how taking a photo at night can make some place seem so much more sinister, isn’t it? As a photographer, I know your tricks. Why didn’t you take any photos during your day time trip and post those? Because it doesn’t serve your interests. I can take a photo of my own living room at night, without much overhead lighting, and it will appear cold. dank and sinister.
If Beverley were a puppy mill and were trying to hide that fact, why would she allow you to tour her property, visit with her animals, tour her office and see her books and pedigrees? If she had something to hide, I’d think she’d be doing everything she could to keep you away. Also she’s been aware for some time that you are entering her property at night, which is also against the law - and you seem so concerned with upholding every law when it’s in your favor. If she knew you were entering her property, why would she leave her dogs in the conditions you are speaking of? It doesn’t add up, like the rest of your claims.
She has now had NUMEROUS, objective dog experts come to her site, tour them freely and even stay on site. Every single one of them has completely disagreed with everything you’ve said here. Why is that?

For those of you who dont know, Ryan purchased an RM puppy, Georgia. He decided after a few weeks it didnt suit his lifestyle so he sold it to someone else. We do not know what happened to poor Georgia or if she is safe, she may be on another puppy farm.

Ryan I think we all agree that the only thing that is cold, dank and sinister aside from the RM kennels and Beverly herself is your heart and head. I think Debra is correct, you do have a huge ego and you manipulate almost as well as Beverly herself. The only thing Beverly will be remembered for is cruelty, breeding practices that have been condemed by the vast majority of Labradoodle breeders around the world,a huge trail of untruths and the condition many of her RM dogs have arrived in at various locations around the world. I didn’t realise you had returned to the RM site - I thought you too had left under a dark cloud of being shady or dishonest or something similar, however I do appreciate if Beverly’s numberms are slipping, she may need all the support she can muster and might even welcome you back.
Should also mention Ryan that I think you will note that Debra was specifically requested not to take photos during her vist/tour of RM and respected this request. The photo ‘opportunity’ was however captured by the American RM groupies who followed Debra around taking photos, in between snide comments and abuse. These same photos (many since removed because they a just a little too incriminating),only confirm the reality of the kennel situation and the dogs. Like the other groupies you, still fail to comment on or address the real issues about the RM dogs - the underage breeding, the continual back to back matings, dogs being locked in together for unsupervised matings, the debarking, the kennels with no bedding, the mattered coats and conditions, the condition of dogs being exportd around the globe on arrival to reputable Labradoodle breeders, the recent disappearance of RM dogs and Ellie and possibly her puppies cruel end to life through a bullet.
You Ryan seem more concerned to let everyone know that you are a photographer. Focus on the facts and the real issues Ryan - the DOGS ! We are even less interested in you than we are in Beverly.

Yes, Georgie, who was fixed prior to coming to America, is on a puppy farm, being bred back to back over and over again. That’s quite a feat I accomplished, eh?

I don’t disagree with many of the things you speak about. I rescued Gunnar, my sweet baby boy, from our local pound and he is a wonderful dog. I agree that there needs to be more of a balance in the adoptions of needy dogs, and there needs to be more visibility to those dogs.
I don’t agree with you launching this assault on Rutland Manor though.
You can dismiss me as a RM groupie, because that serves your needs and fits with your story. But how do you explain the objective, third-party opinions given by dog experts who went and stayed at Rutland Manor after you first posted this garbage? People who went in believing that RM was a puppy mill, and came out praising RM’s program and treatment of their dogs (and who also remarked at the cleanliness and overall appearance of the property)?
If Beverley was running a puppy mill, why would she donate so many puppies, completely free of charge, to those in need? Puppy mills are in the business to make a profit only. Like you said, each puppy is worth $1500-$200. Doesn’t make sense to me.

You’re telling me to focus on the dogs…where is your focus on the dogs? Where is Deb’s? I brought up several valid points above and she chose not to answer them. Why don’t you practice what you preach?
I have read all of the garbage being printed about Beverley and RM. Unlike the people on this site, I actually went to Beverley and asked what was true and what wasn’t. I’m not a PR person for Rutland Manor and I am not a mouthpiece for Beverley. You are a grown woman. If you have a concern with their practices, contact Beverley and address them with her directly.
But, again, we both know that you won’t try to deal in facts. You’d rather deal in silly little attempts at character assassination (like above). I really hope that the people who read these posts take a minute and read your words versus mine. I have not been insulting and I am not dodging issues. When you and Debra get challenged, it becomes personal and you try to turn the spotlight on me instead of backing up your claims or continuing with your concern about the dogs you so love.

Twyla and Kate attempted to create a diversion while here with the neighbors and it backfired big time. Both woman are a disgrace and I wouldn’t be so sure Twyla is happy with everything she saw, perhaps she sent an email to one too many people on what the conditions were really like, hmmm. To Twyla its about “winning” rather than the dogs welfare.

Ryans puppy Georgia was from Shania and Kelbys litter. Poor Shania started out breeding for Tegan Park and then went on to have back to back litters at Rutland Manor puppy farm.
After a few weeks Ryan decided Georgia didn’t fit in with his lifestyle and he put Georgia up for sale on the internet, pet classifieds from memory. Georgia was only 16 weeks old when Ryan decided to cash in on her.
And that’s the truth !
Ryan you have the gall to accuse others of making posts personal and yet you publically state I am a “habitual liar”. The assault on RM is fully deserving and should have been launched years ago. As you say Ryan you are “not a mouthpiece for Beverley”. Correct – you are not, she sent you off to the wilderness to reflect on your allegedly shady and less than honest ways – probably because you either questioned or disagreed with her. Now for whatever reason you are trying to regain her favour through your uninformed and ignorant comments here which again provide nothing of any value and no response about the RM dogs.
Ryan as for facts – read the documents. These are backed up facts. Read the statements by others – these too are facts. No-one wants to email you, what on earth for ? The opinions and beliefs are shared by most in Australia and may from the UK and US.

It’s obvious from the previous post, he never bothered to read the breeders testamonies. Do you ever question why there are so many people, not connected, with similiar experiences??? Or do you just take two Bev apologists words. If you can justify thoses breeding practices, you are sick.
I remember when Ryan put Georgia up for sale. Everyone was disgusted at the time and we couldnt work it out. Ryan then removed all photos of Georgia as he was copping lots of flak for the way he treated this dog.

I have read so so much about this dreadful place! The founder is a disgrace to the human race in my opinion. And those who are supporting her and making allowances for the terrible conditions these dogs are kept in an the appaling way they are treated are no better. Those of you is the UK who show your support! you are more of a disgrace, we ‘were’ a nation of animal lovers you know. I hope I never have the missfortune to meet any of you! All of the RM Supporters live in the USA, Beverley exports most of her puppies to USA and is trying to get into the European market as well. As far as we are aware no one in the UK has come out in support of RM, in fact they have been speaking out publicly against RM for a number of years.

Just a note, Sunset Hills puppy farm is touting the Australian Labradoodle as being Allergy and Asthma friendly, no such thing. I have posted documented scientific evidence that the proteins secreted from the dogs glands produce the allergens, not the coat or hair of the dog. This is a dangerous myth and needs to be stopped for all concerned.
