Daddy’s little girl

John McCarrey has been operating his puppy factory for years, and was in business with Ron Wells. This was the property that Ron kept his larger breeds on. When it came time for the dogs to give birth, Ballarat puppy factory staff would meet John McCarrey on the side of the road and swap dogs, dogs due to whelp would be given to the Ballarat staff and dogs that have just weaned puppies were give back to John. John McCarrey would take the dogs to his property to be impregnated again. This trade in dogs occurred on the side of the highway between Ballarat and the NSW/Victorian border on a weekly basis.

Woodpark puppy factory is currently being investigated by the RSPCA. Business must be good though because now John’s daughter, Gemma McCarrey and her fiance Samuel Hartley, want to open their own puppy factory and have lodged an application with Mitchell Shire Council.

Please lodge an objection and stop this family business that relies on the cruel exploitation of our companion animals.

VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!! JULY 29TH 2010 - PERMIT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN

I was at the Mooroolbool Council meeting when the permit was rejected there! If I have to go to Mitchell Shire meetings…I will also be there to show support for Deb Tranter & other speakers on behalf of these poor dogs! This has to be stopped. ALL need to be abolished.

I have sent my email of protest and will be recruiting as many others as I possibly can to do so as well!!!!!!

  3. 3 Jennier

No Way, Its Cruel!! Love the animals has if they were your kids, unless you treat your kids that way!! Have a heart!

  4. 4 Taylee

I have aswell sent a email, i will try my hardest to help and recruit others. This discusts me that humans are capable of such a thing.

  5. 5 Janelle

NOOO!! It’s a just plain CRUEL. I wonder if the people running these puppy mills ever consider what It would be like for them if they were the dogs… NO NO NO

  6. 6 David Fahey

Well lets say no. Lets reject this permit. Puppy mills are just horrible thing.Let us end people even thinking about opening these things. Let real kennels breed dogs and cats. And lets get puppies out of pet stores.

  7. 7 Lisa J Ryan

When you go into the Woodpark puppies website it also refers to “Welcome to “Woodpark Puppies” and Barmac Breeding Kennels”. How many other names does this family trade under ?. Also discovered that Woodpark puppies are advertising Beaglier Mixed breed puppies for the cost of $1200 per puppy and an added $1000 shipping. This ad with direct reference to Sam Hartley and Woodpark puppies has been running on a Singapore website under the banner “For sale adoption in Singapore”. When you click on the ad link and hold your cursor over the “Adpost.com” logo, it confirms a Singapore site. Where do these babies end up once they hit Singapore ?

All Puppy farms should be banned, The more puppy farms there are the greater numbers of unwanted dogs land up in dog shelters,

Why in a country that has come along way in a short time not stayed true to what we stand for as a nation..Humanity and protection from harm… Why do we still have to see our domesticated animals being abused and used as if they were a material object for human greed with no consciense to say this is wrong to abuse a living intelligent animal that has no way of escaping from its loveless, lonely existance except to die when it cant deliver the goods to the petshops whom sell to people whom are ignorant of what they are contributing too.. when an impulse sale as statistics show will lead to our pet shelters and protection societies for animals whom are government unassisted, tirelessly working to pick up the pieces of the cute puppies now thrown out because the buyers buy without doing the homework of finding a pet forthe right reasons and too suit their environment and understanding the responsibilities and costs of caring for a pet for its whole life..Its not rocket science.. Its logic and if for one minute the politicians thought about it and what a huge step forward it would be in our history as a nation who cares about the people and the domesticated animals that are so much apart of the Australian way famililies,,then why can this still be excepted with eyes closed.. Come on … this is a huge issue that is costing us alot in the eyes of humanity towards the good of all creatures whom deserve to be treated fairly…It will happen one day … but why is this issue concerning our animals rights not being delt with now…why is it being ignored and what will it take to tell you this should be a banned industry in Australia……Have you ever loved a pet and know what it feels like to be loved by a pet,, THen please be the voice to say no to the over breeding ,loveless ,lonely, rejected lives these animals live everyday of their sorrow filled lives ..They deserve to know what a walk is , a pat ,a play time a cuddle and human companionship..someone whom loves them, to be with them when they say goodbye… ITS WRONG TO IGNORE THIS…ITS TIME TO ACT AND STOP THIS VISCIOUS CRIME IN OUR PET LOVING COUNTRY..

  13. 13 David

Keep up the good work and stay in touch.

  14. 14 Cindy Wise

Please stop these people from making these poor dogs have litter after litter..and live there likes just doing this for money..no care and alone all the time for money..

  15. 15 Karen White

As the owner of two, so called, designer dogs who were dumped, please do not give them permission to continue this disgusting cruelty.

  16. 16 cara

Please do not let this go ahead..

  17. 17 Kaherine

Don’t let this go ahead! So cruel, and so many unwanted dogs out there already looking for loving homes!

  18. 18 Murfomurf

This cannot be allowed- we need animals treated humanely and only allowed in SMALL groups- not farmed like sheep! It’s the same with cats- some atrocious households full of miserable animals who have endless kittens.

  19. 19 Laura archer

Please do not allow this insanity to continue. There a millions of unwanted and abandonded dogs that are euthanized every day. This is not humane and we should be ashamed that this kind of treatment to helpless animals is going on. Puppy Mills are disguisting and and a disgrace!! It is cruel what these dogs and puppies have to go through and HAS TO STOP!!!

  20. 20 sara solodky

ALL PUPPY MILLS SHOULD SHUT DOWN AND OUTLAWED FOREVER!!!

  21. 21 A dog lover and a person against unethical breeders who breed for profit

I have a friend who purchased a puppy from a pet store. The puppy had been bred by John McCarrey. This puppy is very much a loved family pet but has had one health issue after another which has caused a lot of heartache for the dog, the family, not to mention the financial strain. My friend and her family are however very commited to their dog and will do whatever they can to esnure the dog is kept safe, pain free and loved. My friend was not aware of the ugly side of pet stores and commerical breeding. Had they been, they would have made a different choice when looking for a canine companion. Although their dog is not regretted they have had many sad thoughts about the dog’s parents and all the others who live this cruel life. They have vowed to help raise awareness and share the education and their experiences so that others do not make the same uninformed choices while unethical puppy farmers like John McCarrey and his family grow rich on the life time suffering of these dogs. Of equal concern is that John McCarrey is a Dogs NSW registered breeder. If you have concerns as I do about this please email the Dogs NSW CEO and complain at ChrstineDavis@dogsnsw.org.au

  22. 22 liz allnutt

WE HAVE ALWAYS GOT OUT DOGS FROM THE POUND & THEY ARE JUST AS SPECIAL AS PET SHOP DOGS.
    PLEASE AUSTRALIA
    GROW UP!

  23. 23 Lisa

    Done!

  24. 24 Melanie Fraser

Is there not enough dogs sitting in shelters desperate for home? Do we really need more puppy farms? Should these dogs be subjected to having litter after litter to appease people that will most likely find one reason or another to abandon their animals 12 months down the track? Its time to stop the madness, close down puppy farms and give shelter dogs a much needed chance.

  25. 25 Kerry Batty

Please consider these poor animals and conditions that you would be allowing them to be under. There are other options for people to get a puppy other than these puppy farms which are cruel and unusual punishment. A dog can give a lot of love so it stands to reason that they can also feel pain. Please help us to stop these puppy farms by standing up and saying NO to them.

  26. 26 Taylee

yay i love it, so much support for getting rid of these things :)

  27. 27 Lizzie

How disappointing this daughter lacked the insight to see how cruel this sordid business is. Opposition letter sent - Thank you for making it easier with the above details/info.

  28. 28 Sharnee Hayes

Done! and ill do it it again, AND AGAIN and again !
These people must be punished and this practice must STOP!

  29. 29 Dilys Clarke

This cruelty must be stopped and the people responsible punished and given harsh penalties, pet shops should not be allowed to sell animals. More people must be made aware of what is going on. It is a priviledge to own an pet not a right!

  30. 30 Rebecca Esau

    please do not allow this

  31. 31 dan hart

    shocking nothing else describes it

  32. 32 Donna Nicholls

Please do not allow this. Its cruel for the poor animals, I will be discusted if a council allows this. Do you not have ENOUGH un wanted animals all over pounds in Australia. If you allow this then hundreds more will just end up in pounds and I live next to one and hear them distraught barking everyday. Say no to these rotten selfish money hungry people!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. 33 Karen Webb

All puppy farms should be banned, not just in Australia, but world wide.
You need a licence to drive a car, BUT not to own a pet (go figure)
After recently walking past a pet shop and seeing some puppies that were “8 weeks old” and then going past again a few weeks later and seeing the same puppies that were still only “8 weeks old”. It has to make you wonder what the hell is wrong with people who find it easy to see animals suffer in order to make a buck.
Lets just hope that some of these “so call humans” never have to come back and live a life as as “puppy farm dog” and then end up alone and unwanted in the pound or even worse dead.
Show some human compassion and put a stop to this cruel and evil treatment of all animals. Its easy for everyone to see a animal that has been abused on the T.V and say “Oh the poor little thing”. BUT now it time to say enough is enough and help these little creatures learn what life is really about “love”.
DO NOT ALLOW ANYMORE OF THESE “TORTURE FARMS” TO BE OPENED AND ITS TIME TO CLOSE THE REST OF THEM.

  34. 34 Kirra Nichol

This is discusting, this is the daughter of a man with a bad reputation. Dont allow this. These dogs are bred every six monts and sold just for the profit. The dogs dont deserve this, what on earth will humans do to dogs next. No one will sleep at night if this is passed, will you be able to sleep if you pass this knowing these animals will be suffering. Shame shame shame on these people as the dogs would say, say no for our sake gggrrrrr

  35. 35 Wendy Brown

Put a stop to these sort of awful people now!!!

  36. 36 irene clarke-dalton

Please show some compassion and put a stop to this senseless animal cruelty. The life of these dogs to many are considered worthless. Please let people know that you are not one of the many that simply turn a blind eye. Stop puppy farming, make a stand and do the right thing!

  37. 37 Linda Willcox

There is no need to have places like this. They are plain cruel and animaals aren’t guaranteed to be treated with the respect and love that they deserve. There are already thousands of homeless dogs available to loving homes. Please do not allow this outdated practice. They’re not breeding machines!!!!

  38. 38 Toni Fontaine

Please don’t let these farms go ahead. I am sick of humans degrading and treating animals like this. We don’t do it to humans so why animals ? I am repulsed my people who choose to do this. The community pay good money for the council to monitor stuff like this. How about you starting putting that money to good use and close these disgusting vile beings down.

  39. 39 LEE-ANN

I ALSO HAVE SENT THE EMAIL OFF FOR THIS PUPPY FARMING TO BE STOPPED …. DONT KNOW HOW THE COUNCIL CAN PERMIT SOMETHING LIKE THIS WHEN THEY ALREADY KNOW THAT THE FATHER IS BEEN INVESTIGATED… COME ON COUNCILS WAKE UP AND LOOK AT THE INVESTIGATION THAT THEY ARE DOING…..

  40. 40 John Sharpley

Please reject this… do not accept this… cruelly farming animals when places like Lort Smith struggle for funding and assistance due to the constant supply of abandoned animals. Please consider your actions before you allow this…

  41. 41 Marie Smith

Please do not let this happen. We do NOT need another puppy farm we have to many now….

  42. 42 Thelma Spink

The people that run such dispicabley filthy places like these should be made to spend a year in the cages to live their style of care for themselves. What the hell is RSPCA doing for these animals ?

  43. 43 Helen Brocker

The time has well and truly come for people to make a stand against this cruel, money making industry. To think that a council would allow more of these puppy factories to open is an outrage. We need to change the law to make it compulsary to desex and micro chip dogs….WE DO NOT NEED MORE PUPPIES!!!

  44. 44 Mel

I found out my sister bought her Samoyed puppy from here over a year ago and they have promised papers and everything, obviously now she knows she was scammed and bought a puppy from a puppy farm but they should be shut down!

Her Samoyed is not a standard Samoyed and the parent photos my sister had gotten were of shaved Sammies, obviously the so called breeders don’t put any time into their dogs or puppies.

So frustrating! They should be shut down!

  45. 45 rachel

I can not believe someone would be so selfish to open yet another puppy farm.. so many dogs are already suffering and this cruel woman wants to bring more helpless little animals into the world just to make herself profit!!! anyone who would consider partaking in such an “industry ” should be shot! they have no sense nor compassion for animals!!! this deeply saddens me and I would do anything to see the closure of all puppy farms! they are run for the best interest of selfish humans who care only about making money.. those poor animals who through no fault of their own are left scared and neglected deserve to have a voice!! the way a human treats an animal speaks very loudly about their character, this woman should be locked up and kept far away from animals.
    sincere

  46. 46 narelle donaldson

    stop these terrible puppy farms

  47. 47 Maria Gagliardi

The government needs to stop the deliberate exploitation of these beautiful creatures…I don’t know how anyone could do this to another living thing..

  48. 48 Adrienne

With the RSPCA running such a massive campaign exposing the puppy farms, the Councils should surely be aware of vile, cruel and disgusting practices that are common place in this industry. The absolute audacity of these people wanting to open yet another farm and exploit innocent animals. Ban them for good. We do not want any more healthy animals being destroyed because they are now unwanted and neglected. Enough is enough - we do not want any more puppy farms and please do not patronise pet shops that sell animals.

  49. 49 Krista

Please stop the Puppy Farm! It’s a terrible place for all dogs great and small to have to suffer the trauma, neglect and stress. They’re only in it for the money, They do not care about such living creatures, They share no love and affection to these dogs, they treat them as if they aren’t important. We do not need a Puppy Farm, It’s horrible to see and here things like this are real. I have an Irish Setter who was from a pet store, she was 7kg underweight and her brother had a broken tail, her sister was traumatised by her previous owner and was ended up at the pound. I am still to this day trying to track down the person who advertised and sold the 3 puppies at a pet store, I have found my dog Ruby’s siblings and her brother has a lot of health problems, not only that but Irish Setters are a rare and special breed an I was told they shouldn’t be sold in pet stores, but I think every dog shouldn’t deserve to be coopt up in a small, confined place. Please find a respectable breeder or adopt before purchasing a dog and think twice!

BAN PUPPY FARMS Mitchell council if you have a heart then dont let this application go ahead what is wrong with this John, Gemma and Samuel, obviously they have no morals and dont have a kind heart to make money off the sad lives of which these poor dogs go through makes sick, most will end up in the already over crowded shelters, there is so many people in shelters doing the right kind hearted work to help these animals and then there are these that use and abuse animals for their own greed. PLEASE dont allow this. All my animals are from rescue centres but the good people can only do so much when we have to keep fighting against this :( :(

  52. 52 Sarah Coelho

Please do not allow this puppy farm to go ahead. Puppy farms are cruel. Every animal deserves to be loved, well fed, warm and well cared for.

  53. 53 helen

What is wrong with human society. Have we become the animals. Insanity and cruel

  54. 54 Eleni papazoglou

I already gave a home to a beautiful Pug my second she was unwanted and from what i found later from a so called breeder that she was running a puppy farm . Please stop this the shelters are already full with so many cats and dogs looking for a loving home STOP this madness ,we should have laws like the States here. We are going back to the Dark Ages .SHAME TO ALL INVOLVED .WE Should start protesting outside this farm to be closed ones and for all .

  55. 55 Donna

Im with you in the above comment Eleni, we should all go and protest at these farms together. OMG I dont honestly know how I could look at the dogs and then walk away and leave them their. I would hate to see what I would do, or say to the people who run them. Im a coward seeing cruelty and would go right off, I know it!!. I wish someone could organize a live protest, I just dont know how to organize it. I wish the person who started the petition could do it, god bless them for starting this and making us all share in in this petition, Im so proud of them and everyone thats signed it. Shame on those cruel breeders. Mitchell council better not allow this one!!!!!!!!! x
